Check out this touching video where Andrei Linde (one of the fathers of inflation) is told about the result. It is also great to see the excitement on the face of this wife (who, by the way, I had for 3 quarters, and while a sweet woman, not the best of teachers...).

I've been so excited the whole day, can't stop reading papers and blogs!

Oh man, was she the person who taught QFT? If so, I very much agree with your take, not an inspiring teacher. But at the same time, that material is hard. I never really got it and dropped the series after the first class. At this point basically all I remember is that the math for renormalization is horrible.
