I think the idea is lifetime treatment for injuries sustained while playing. You could also imagine some kind of limited thing lasting only, say, 5 years. But we need something, because the stories of people getting injured then being kicked to the curb are so brutally unfair. (Of course, that doesn't happen at Stanford AFAIK.)
