I have seen things like "lifetime health care" thrown about a lot. Does anyone know just what that really means? An actual health care policy that then covers athletes for the rest of their life? Does anyone offer such a benefit? Maybe the armed forces?
I don't think that the NFL or any of the pro leagues do. Here is a web page outlining NFL benefits.

I think the idea is lifetime treatment for injuries sustained while playing. You could also imagine some kind of limited thing lasting only, say, 5 years. But we need something, because the stories of people getting injured then being kicked to the curb are so brutally unfair. (Of course, that doesn't happen at Stanford AFAIK.)
