I agree that Stanford is indeed not for everyone (as mind boggling as that can be sometimes for proud alum such as yours truly - especially now when we're riding a perfect storm of academics, athletics and everything embodied by the 40-year decision argument; let's also throw in Pro Bowl- and Superbowl-related positive media coverage at this very moment for good measure).
I also agree with the above posts on why he may have preferred Oregon over Stanford.
Just as a point of reference (and not to disparage him in any way), however, in following his recruitment (among several other recruits) I do note that as of June 21, 2012 he was reportedly carrying a 3.24 (as reported by numerous media in stories related to his AZ/national track awards, including a story in his school paper).
