I've said this before in this forum, but I voted for Robber Barons in 1975. I was annoyed that the administration/BOT/whoever refused to go along with the student vote. My take was, if you're not going to listen to our opinion, why ask for it?
That said, fifteen years later when I was working for the University controller, in the office that had to deal with government auditors regarding the legality/illegality of our indirect cost and fringe benefits rates, I was very very very glad that the headlines in the SJ Mercury News did not have permission to refer to Stanford as Robber Barons. I have been retired from that office for six years now, and the thought of those headlines can still give me cold sweats.
