There is no In-N-Out in the Southeast. So I am not biased by some continually reinforcing loyalty habit. But we do have Five Guys. Ate there twice. With spouse. Both times we came away disappointed. Not disappointed because we settled for Five Guys over the sentimental favorite, disappointed because the eating didn't live up to the buzz around the chain opening up stores in our town. We were disappointed because the burgers just weren't that good. Spouse does not have a dog in this fight. Didn't grow up in CA. No loyalty conflicts whatsoever. She just said, in essence: "we tried this place once and weren't impressed. We tried again, let's not do it a third time." How could anyone in their right mind choose Five Guys over the nostalgia of their youth and the categorical dictum of their spouse?Â
