The Mijares family of Pasadena goes back 3, maybe 4 (who knows what great grand kids are running around?) of cooking real Mexican food in their restaurants. I was born around mid (last) century and their place was a Pasadena landmark even before that. One of the Mijares told us the saying I quoted before, although he put it "Never eat Mexican food in territory not stolen from us...". Said it with a big smile and a laugh. Downtown Pasadena is now a trendy place, so business is probably pretty good. You know they're doing something right when the criticism on Yelp is that it was frequented by low-life types. I resemble that remark.
