I know nothing about whether Dorrell is/was/will be a good or bad coach or OC, but I think it is relevant that Mason hired him.
There was lots of discussion on the Vandy board, when Dorrell was hired at VU, about his record at UCLA. He was fired as HC, but the record was not bad, it just wasn't good enough:Â bowl games in 5/5 seasons, Pac-10 co-coach of the year once, no recruiting or other scandals. I believe it was Neuheisel who said that the UCLA job was impossible to succeed in at that time because of lack of support from the administration. So opinions can differ, which was the point of my post.
My guess is that Dorrell and Mason are hoping/expecting that Dorrell will be successful and will use that success as a stepping stone back to a college HC job again.
