The Canary Islands are a former colony of Spain's and have had a mild independence movement for some time, but their citizens would still travel under a Spanish passport.  A little like Puerto Rico for the U.S.

But Romero does exemplify the kind of top quality players that are coming out of Spain these days.  It is by far the leader in this level of European WBB, as all its European championships attest.
