Not a great story, or a celebrity sighting, but a funny way to get off on the wrong foot with my roommie's mom. Freshman year I was in Navy ROTC. I went straight from boot camp to move in day and was wearing my uniform with a near skin head type buzz cut. I walked in my room and found my Mexican-American roommie and his mom (who didn't speak much English) waiting. In our chat, I explained that I was in ROTC (pronounced "rot-see") his mom started speaking to him very quickly in Spanish. When I asked what the problem was, he explained that his mom heard "not-zee". It was ironed out, but I never was very close to my roommate's family.
