At halftime at one of the wbb games a few years ago a club did a re-creation of basketball by the old rules--with three forwards who literally must stay "forward" of the half court line and three guards who must play defense behind the half court line, and only three dribbles allowed between passes.  It sounds like the rules in 1896 were different yet.
