I suppose the ultimate question is whether the Harbaugh/Roman/Shaw/Hamilton/Bloombgren Stanford offense requires pieces that only come every once in a while: bruising running backs and once-in-a-generation QB's.

I agree with the RB part but not the QB part.  For two seasons Stanford had an above average QB and a bruising RB and made the Rose Bowl and would have been in the 2013 NCG against Alabama absent refs wearing leprechaun hats.

That there is not a single bell cow on the roster is Shaw & Bloomgren's fault for not recruiting one.
