I've found that slow motion on replays helps in some aspects (such as seeing whether someone's foot fell inbounds or not, or whether a football was fumbled before or after a knee touched the ground), but in other aspects it can confuse the issue, and I think the question of "establishing possession" on a reception is such a case. To me, it looked like a reception until I looked at it in slow motion, but the slow motion really did make possession seem a lot more tentative.
