I never even did a college newspaper so I'd argue even that is unnecessary.

Still, I disagree it's a dying profession, though that may be motivated reasoning.

Employment in journalism (even if you count buzzfeed et al) has to be going down pretty significantly. It probably won't hit 0 within our lives, even in traditional journalism, but it's hard to argue that the job prospects are as rosy as most other careers.
