The worst part about that is that he was using the adjective "outmanned" in reference to the defense, then tacked on the part about Montgomery's injury:
Quote:Even though the outmanned Cardinal team harassed Hundley, hit everyone, and overcame the absence of their best offensive player Ty Montgomery to pound the Bruins on four touchdown drives of at least 75 yards each, anyone with a sense of UCLA history would have to admit it was not really shocking.
I've spent a lot of time complaining about Plaschke on this site, but I'll do it again. He's always struck as someone who wakes up, rubs the sleep out of his eyes, watches the game, then bangs out a column. He knew that Stanford came in at 6-5, so that must mean they were inferior to UCLA, since the Bruins were 9-2. Did he consider that Stanford lost three games by three points each to ranked opponents? (Okay, two of them aren't ranked any longer, and the other is #25, but still.) Did he consider that UCLA struggled to beat C.al and Colorado? None of that means that Stanford has been the better team all season, but it certainly indicates that they should've been given a shot in this game. But Plaschke doesn't think that way. Instead, he writes incendiary columns and crosses his fingers waiting for a guest spot on that Algonquin Roundtable of journalism, Around the Horn. He's an abomination.
Please clear the field! The game is not over!
