I've heard Tara talk about this game several times. In addition to our two last minute injuries to stars--think Chiney and Ruef going down the week before the NCAAs last year--she also points out that Harvard was certainly not a legitimate 16 seed. In those years the WBB committee played very fast and loose with seeding in order to create match ups that would increase attendance at the games or otherwise stimulate interest in WBB. Stanford vs. Harvard was just too much for the committee to resist. Harvard's senior Allison Feaster was a special player who had turned down numerous scholarships to attend Harvard--and she went on to have a good career in the WNBA.Â
By the way, since seventeen years is not too short a time to keep wishing for revenge on Harvard, you might enjoy knowing that Chattanooga turned back Harvard with 2.2 seconds remaining yesterday:
