Quote: Indianapolis was in clear rebuilding mode
Skip always neglects to remember this whenever the topic comes up. Reggie Wayne, Robert Mathis and others could not all have been signed if they had shelled out the brobdingnagian amount they were going to pay Peyton in 2011. The team would have been even more gutted. Sadly, Grigson was able to do so little with the difference in cap space that he received from the lower cap spend from Luck. That doesn't bode well for the future when Luck takes up a tad more cap space than he already is. But back on topic, it's doubtful Peyton would have had the same success he had the past three years playing behind Indy's line and throwing to whatever receivers they would have had.
But regardless, Skip is so narrow in his analysis. He's viewing the decision like a fan would. Irsay was thinking about the longterm success of his multi-million dollar business.
