I think it is fair to include Hogan and Crower in the list. And Hogan, while unlikely to be a future NFL starter, will probably be a 3+ year starter at Stanford and two time (hopefully three) conference champion and Rose Bowl winner. It is hard to consider him a "miss".
As for his USD recruit, the fact that he got a FCS division QB to the NFL has to be considered a brobdingnagian win.
Lastly, to Gavin, Harbaugh recruited RGIII, but wanted him to come as a wide receiver. He went to Baylor because Briles promised him he could compete at QB. The two QB's Harbaugh would have picked over Luck were Landry Jones and Dayne Crist, who committed to Notre Dame. Jones would have been a serviceable QB, though nowhere near Luck. Crist wound up being benched at Notre Dame and later transferring to Kansas, where he again got benched for playing poorly. Harbaugh and Stanford dodged a bullet when Crist committed to UDFG.
