UW's defensive success is driven by their sacks. They have 16 so far this year; 13 in the past three games.
Obviously this drastically influences the perception of what UW is good at. With sacks folded into rushing statistics, UW gives up 3.11 yards per carry. The Christian McCaffrey vs. UW rushing defense then appears to be a titanic strength-vs-strength matchup. Take the sacks out and their yards per carry surrendered goes up to 3.71. Concentrate just on conference opponents and you've suddenly got 4.46 yards per carry -- solid, but by no means overwhelming. Freeman went for 5.1 yards per carry, below his season average but certainly pretty solid. SC gashed UW on the ground when they bothered to run.
Stanford will probably run the ball and probably be reasonably successful -- though not as successful as they're accustomed to. Which means they need to avoid sacks.
