Troy Walters joining Scott Frost

According to this article (http://bsndenver.com/mike-macintyre-cu-b...s-to-come/), it looks like he'll be the Offensive Coordinator there, so a nice advancement for Troy.Â
I would expect that Troy's hoping for the same thing Scott Frost is--adding talented players in talent-rich Florida should allow you to have a reasonably explosive offense sooner rather than later, and that offense should be good for the career prospects for both Walters and Frost. This is Troy's ticket to a Power 5 offensive coordinator job in a few years, so good for him!
Shame for Colorado, though. I know Troy wasn't exactly going to be a lifer there, but I feel like he was a big part of getting that program to where it is right now. A lot of really close results and gutty performances from that team this year, despite being thoroughly outmatched talent-wise.Â

Not particularly apropos of the conversation here, I wonder how much improvement is really going on in the Colorado program.
The standard story line seems to be that the Buffs have gone from awful to close, and are now about to break out. Maybe, but ...
McIntyre has been there for three seasons:
2015 Colorado had 1 conference win (by 4 points) and 4 one-score losses.
2014 Colorado had 0 conference wins and 4 one-score losses.
2013 Colorado had 1 conference win and 1 one-score loss.
Before McIntyre:
2012 Colorado had 1 conference win and 1 one-score loss.
2011 Colorado had 2 conference wins and 2 one-score losses.
2010 Colorado was in the Big 12.
From the far outside it seems things are just floundering around.
But maybe if you pay more attention or know more about the inside there are good signs.

Colorado might've beaten SC if the Trojans didn't knock out their starting QB in the first quarter.

Oh, I certainly don't think CU is about to "break out" by any stretch, but living in Colorado, it feels like they're right on the edge of a couple more conference wins and getting to bowl eligibility. I'm not sure they could reasonably expect more for quite a while.
CTcard, you're right that the W-L record doesn't show that the program is improving, but to me, the number of one-score losses in '14 and '15 shows that the program is better positioned than it was before McIntyre (and Walters et al.) got there. And adding former USF head coach Jim Leavitt as the DC this year has seemed to really tighten up that defense.Â
Even looking beyond the one-score games, things have tightened up, meaning the 4-score blowouts are now more competitive two-score games on average. In 2013, for example, CU was outscored 459-305 (-154) for the season. In 2014, that tightened to 468-342 (-126), and this year it was 357-320 (-37), a massive improvement. Our game against them was an outlier this year.Â
I don't think they'll get to a bowl game next year (scheduling Michigan seems unwise for where they are as a program right now--they really could have used a cupcake as a 3rd non-conference game), but I think they'll win more than 1 conference game, and their games will be even more competitive.Â
