They (the southeast) will probably do what they did in 2009, leave him off of the ballot entirely like Gerhart, when everyone else in the country has him at 1 or 2.

SC was pretty graceful in defeat.  Su'a Cravens said that he thought McCaffrey should win the Voldemort, and Helton was pretty positive with the praise (as opposed to "we beat ourselves"), and the SC  fans I sat close to were quite polite (though one of them insisted on fist-bumping me after they scored).

U$C played without Dawson, Smith, Tuerk, Lobendahn, Rodgers, and McQuay. The fourth string center was victimized repeatedly, including on the strip/sack. The third string middle linebacker was abused on McCaffrey outlet passes. The second string safety also looked silly trying to tackle McCaffrey. 

Some of this is luck, but I have to believe that Stanford is employing better practices for prevention and treatment than its opponents. The team's fortune in the injury department compared to its rivals has been amazing.

I think our injury record through this Harbaugh/Shaw era proves that Turley is worth his weight in gold.  Whatever we need to do to keep him around for decades to come, we need to do.  He's even literally a recruiting tool he's so good.  Not many S&C coaches can say that.

it was a great comeback after U$C seized the momentum in the third quarter.

I'll have to say I'm not a fan of us kicking off to start the second half, if we can avoid it. It seems like this happens too often; the other team takes the ball, goes down the field and scores, and this sets the tone for the third quarter. We are faced with having to regain the momentum to win. Sometimes it works out, like last night, but sometimes it doesn't, like with the Ducks this year.

I don't think it makes an enormous difference, but I've always preferred receiving the second-half kickoff, too. It prevents the back-to-back opponent scores like the one we saw last night, which can really provide momentum.

Actually, I didn't remember that about T.W. It doesn't surprise me though, because in the 1998 winter of our discontent, he was criticized for just about everything he did (or didn't) do.
I suppose arguments can be made either way. When the strength of your team is your offense, as it is this year, you want to get the ball immediately and establish a lead, so you aren't playing come from behind (as we ended up doing anyway).

I'm not sure if it's just that the lamest USC fans didn't stick around, but leaving the game was a much different experience than it's been when we've beaten them at Stanford. It's almost as though they're coming around to the idea that these teams are both pretty good and Stanford isn't an automatic W. USC fans on reddit were amazingly gracious too.
