For all of Derrick Henry's size and power, his strides are too long to change direction and he was easily wrapped up below the waist for tackles.  Christian would have had a better performance between the tackles finding the smallest holes to burst through.  I think we're going to get to enjoy watching Christian play on Sundays with better results than the current Voldemort winner.  The quarterback from Clemson was the real deal though.  Kudos to him.  I'm not sure we would have beaten either of those teams, but you never know.  I think we'd have a harder time with Clemson than Alabama due to their style of play on offense. 

Of course, if you think I'm biased I am open to being proven wrong.

Sentiment seemed to be that Henry would not have been a good RB if not for the Bama OL blowing open holes in the Clemson front seven.  Didn't hurt that the Clemson LBs were out of position a few times or so...

Watson reminded me of Vince Young except that Vince was a winner.

I agree that we would have a tough time with either team.  We might have won, might not have.  Henry wasn't even one of the top 5 players on the field, IMHO.  Watson was the best player.  The game turned on his one serious mistake.  Line play was interesting.  Alabama's front 7 didn't look like the advertised best ever, but both sides were good for both teams.  I rooted for Clemson, but still enjoyed the game immensely.  Not as much as when our team plays, but one of the most enjoyable games I have seen in awhile when I really didn't have a horse in the race.

Henry is tall for a RB, isn't he? I thought his whole thing is that he's tall and heavy, so he can run over small college defenders, which doesn't work so well once you're playing defenders who aren't small.

Ok, your stirring the pot but I'm a sucker and I'll take the bait.  With Henry we'd have needed the Stanford offense as played in 2013 or 2009 not the one we played with in 2015.

I see fewer receptions coming from then backfield, more involvement from our tight ends and an offense based upon power runs up the middle.  The two players are different runners - Henry wouldn't have been a fit for the offense Stanford ran in 2015 nor would McCaffery have fit with Alabama.  And what about McCaffrey's special teams contribution?  We sure needed some of those special teams scores/field positions that McCaffery gave us against Notre Dame and WSU.  Would we have gotten those with his replacement? 

I like our guy and I believe Stanford NEEDED the greater versatility he brought to the table.  You may disagree but we can certainly agree an offense based upon Herny would be very, very different.

Thanks Hank.  Young played behind a veteran OL (several future NFL talents) and had Jamaal Charles in his backfield.  Watson played with a defense that couldn't cover (yes, injured CB too) and a WR corps that was almost single-handedly led by a walk-on.  Watson was the more valuable player compared to Henry, but as the failed two-point conversion showed, he couldn't do it alone.  (Also, the playcalling on that two-point conversion was a little baffling.  Set up to fail.)
