No idea who the third DL is, but I agree that Watkins could be the guy.
I'm hoping that Barton or Okereke steps up at ILB. I think it's unlikely that Davis starts ...
At OLB, there have been positive reviews about Toohill, so he could crack the two-deep. But Robinson is that good, and he's up to 228, so it'll be hard to redshirt him.
I expect Buncom to get a lot of playing time. I wouldn't be surprised if he's at corner and Meeks at nickel quite often. Also Murphy is probably ahead of Alexander.
Much of what kuz says matches the rumors that I have heard about the thinking of the staff.
This includes the two likely OL configurations - though it wasn't entirely clear to me that Tucker would be at LT.
I do think that the primary extra OL will be whoever loses out between Fanaika and Hall to be in the starting five. A true frosh getting playing time is more likely to depend upon how ready they are, rather than team needs.
The other issue I wonder about on offense is whether Taboada is going to get much time. He made two TD catches against UO, but overall didn't play much. Kaden Smith is only a frosh but was highly recruited. That's a lower profile battle that has my interest.
EDIT - scratch all that TE stuff. I forgot that Smith tore his ACL and MCL. We won't be seeing him for another year.
The third DL is up in the air as far as I know. If things go well six guys will get plenty of snaps, so there's room for Watkins, Kaumatule, Cotton, and Jackson to all contribute. I'll be interested to how much time Annan gets - my impression is that the coaches haven't talked about him much.
Overall, there is a chance that a frosh getting on the field would be a negative indicator here.
I am under the impression that the staff is a lot higher on Perez than most fans. I don't know if that goes as far as getting him a starting role, but he will be on the depth chart. My general guess is that Robinson won't redshirt, but his role will be limited enough there will be complaints about the decision. The top three OLBs are Kalambayi - Alfieri - Tyler with I think Toohill starting out as #4.Â
I think that the staff likes Meeks as a nickel back, but he's also probably our best corner so needs to be on the field as much as possible. We might see him rolling over depending upon the defensive configuration - as already noted by kuz.
