It all depends on what "being ready" means. If by ready, they've come to terms with the fact that he may end up running through, around and over them, then I cen beleive they're ready. But if they think they have the secret to stopping him locked down, then I doubt they're that "ready."

A three teams did manage to limit his production pretty well (defined as <100 yards because why not?), but there's some explanation for each:

1) Against Northwestern and UCF the coaches didn't really know what they had, the main problem @NWU was that McCaffrey should've ran as many times as Hogan passed, not really sure why UCF was his worst game of the year (seriously! lowest yardage and YPC against the 0-12 team) but I don't think anyone would claim UCF had serious success against us.

I think the Irish be our biggest test.

Did they have a subpar back 4 or did Hogan just go super sayian for that game? His stat line is ridiculous: 17/21 (81%!) for 269 yards, 4 TDs, and an absolutely absurd 251 efficiency rating (30 points better than his next-best game). I had assumed that ND was loading the box and using both numbers and talent to stop the run, so Hogan picked it up. After all, if the DL was just winning there's basically 0 chance Hogan gets those kind of numbers because he'd be getting pressured on every snap.

I'm unaware of publicly available charting numbers that would help show whether ND was committing more players than normal to stopping the run, so short of re-watching it would be hard to know for sure.

Notre Dame had a very stout front seven, a hideous backfield, and they were concentrating on stopping McCaffrey. That all contributed to Hogan having a PER of 251.4 for the game, the best single game of his career.

For that matter both Northwestern and UCF had strong DL. UCF was a bad team, but the best thing they had was the DL (though I think it got injured later). They weren't so good that it really explains that being McCaffrey's worst game by yds/carry, but a part of the reason.

May not be as good as last year, but Kansas St is not good enough to make a difference.  They just don't see a steamroller like the Stanford offense.

I've been reading about how wise KSU's coach Snyder is, and that he coaches a very disciplined style of football.  Many of their fans have expectations that their coach will devise some sophisticated way to deprive CMac of the situational opportunities that he has been so phenomenal in exploiting.

Wasn't there similar musing from Hawkeye fans prior to the Rose Bowl?  They had very good reason to believe that they had a strong defensive unit.  Nonetheless, our offense dismantled, embarrassed, humiliated, decimated, and soundly beat that strong defensive unit.  CMac himself set a Rose Bowl record (actually probably several) for APY.  It was a drubbing.

Now there was some note that the Iowa players indicated they had not seen much of CMac, but that is implausible in this day and age of video study to prepare.  KSU has had a boatload of time to study film and they think they may have an approach to stopping our hero. 

But I think seeing CMac on tape is a totally, 100% different experience than seeing him come at you on a football field.  I am reminded of my reaction to his high school junior year highlight film that I looked at closely when we were recruiting him.  Probably because one of you posted it.  I really do remember playing it back multiple times, over and over; trying to figure out if he was that good, or were the opponents inept?  I think I even posted here to ask the question.

The point is that CMac is highly unique.  I do not expect KSU to slow him down significantly.  If his metrics are slightly off, I'm pretty sure its because Cameron Scarlett's and Trent Irwin's are through the roof.  The only reason his production was pedestrian against Northwestern and the first half of UCF was we had not figured out how to use him.  For one thing, in those games we needed to use him a lot.  We were unable to get him rolling until that UCF second half.  After that it felt like every week was a candy store for him.  OK, maybe not the Washington schools quite as much.  But I think people just don't comprehend how unique he is. 

Naturally, this could all be a load of hooey.  Just one guy's delusional doting.  I sincerely hope not.  I really expect not.
