I don't get it?  Stanford's a little dinged up, and the WA teams are probably better than expected, but it seems like there is something else going on?  They just look suddenly and profoundly lost and lifeless at every aspect of the game...  What happened to the team that beat KSU, USC and UCLA -- this looks like just an entirely different team -- weird....

The superstitious and HIGHLY unscientific part of me worries that the Cardboard went to a new layout the week before our Washington loss.

Alternatively, this fall is 2006's 10-year reunion in two weekends and we'll all be back on campus to attend the Colorado homecoming game. Our graduation year was the first year to lose all four big games since the 50's and the only year not to do the wacky walk on the Stanford football stadium due to construction, so it feels like we're a cursed class when it comes to Stanford football and we may be bringing our demons back with us...

Oy. Yes. and 2008 got Oprah. At least he had a great sense of humor about our lukewarm welcome; I specifically remember him calling out a classmate who had written a Daily letter to the editor criticizing the class presidents' choice of him. He took it in good humor and it was pretty funny. No Steve Jobs "stay hungry" moment, but it could have been worse...

But, I think the defense has just faced two very good offenses and hopefully will be getting back its top two corners sometime soon.

I think Stanford will rebound this year but no one can be optimistic about the offense at this point. It's clear to me that neither Chryst nor Burns, though they may have good wheels, have Hogan's ability as a runner.

If there's one thing that hasn't been discussed as much as it should, I would say that evidently the QB run game was a very underrated part of the Stanford offense these past few years.

The undergrads got Brokaw.  We grad students got some other guy whose name I honestly do not remember, Gregorian or Vergorian or something like that.  And I never even knew the wacky walk existed until I attended a friend's PhD graduation in 2009, since no one tells the grad students about these things.  I thought that the class of 2009 just had a bunch of nutsos until I understood it was actually the usual tradition.

Well, I think some other bad stuff is in play, but let's not underestimate here. I've been cataloguing games since 2013 and Stanford has not in a single game, during that time period, been as injured as it is now.

Gregorian was a great history prof, perhaps the best ever, at SF State. He got pissed at the '67 BSU strike and wound up as the head of the NYC public library and as a Hall of Fame socialite in Manhattan.

I think people aren't giving this the proper amount of credit. We're not OSU, we can't and don't have a deep stable of 5-stars to come in. We have good talent, but it needs a couple years to be really coached up. How many of our guys seem to do nothing for their first couple of years then get end-year awards in the last two?

Combine that with a lot of turnover from last year (IIRC our returning starts number was one of the lowest in the country) and we've just got a brobdingnagian talent dropoff. The plus side is that guys should be better next year.

This doesn't, however, really excuse our offense being completely inept. I'd love to know how we went from 100+ yards before contact against USC to ~50 total in the last couple games. Something had to have happened, I don't think USC's front seven is just a joke.
