Costello time.

I mean how bad must Chryst be if he can't get in now with this horrific offense and outcome?

If not Costello, I say we play Lloyd both ways.  He will be athletic and can run and throw and be a handful.  I know we would score w/him in (Unless we subbed in Chryst for the designed run play again and again).

Not to be critical, and I keep my support going...but I am embarrassed for the offense and if I was the defense I would go $#%^} in the locker room.

I believe Shaw will stick with his senior QB for at least the next couple of weeks out of loyalty regardless of the poor field results.  It just fits his M.O.

The soft underbelly of the schedule hits the next couple of weeks with 'Zona and OSU followed by Team Nike fielding the statistically worst defense in the FBS.  Burns will have an opportunity to captain the offense against lesser resistance which may allow improvement.  I'm just not sure the talent, coaching or offensive line is there for him to fix what is going wrong and then sustain positive results.

I very much do not want the plaque on the Axe changed in 4 weeks time.  That game may be the difference between a poor season or a horrible season.

It just isn't in Shaw's DNA to put a true freshman in there at QB, even though a lot of teams have had some success doing it.

Probably the best we can hope for is to start seeing more of Chryst, although I'm doubtful that he is the answer either.

Loyalty has no place in a sport like college football with such high and frequent turnover.  There are too many people working too hard and investing too much for loyalty to under-performers to be tolerated.

Shaw did say after the game, something like "if the guys we have out there aren't getting it done, we will put different guys out there."

...What? I know that Colorado has historically been pretty bad, but my understanding is that we've probably played the 7 best teams we're going to face this year, and we're 4-3. There's no way we lose to Rice at home, so we just need to beat one of the dreadful Arizona/OSU/Oregon combo. If we don't improve our offense then we'll have a tough time at Cal, but it wouldn't take a whole lot for us to win out.

I believe at this point Shaw will play the option that he believes gives us the best chance at victory--including Costello.  Unfortunately for us, only Shaw & staff sees the full body of work for these 3.  For me personally, I expect more Chryst this coming week as the staff renews search for someone to step up.

It's certainly time for a change but I'm not sure Costello is the right choice.  Maybe he and Chryst each play half of the next couple of games and then ShawVitaGren can decide.

More importantly, it's time to make a change at OC.  I'd like the staff to be changed a little bit - maybe have the OC also coach the TEs and have a full-time OL coach which clearly has been desperately needed - this year and in 2014.  Bloomgren needs to be working somewhere else, and probably Pritchard as well.

IMO, that's not how teams handle poor play by a player or unit. I'm pretty sure the offense knows they're not holding up their part of the team effort, and I'm pretty sure they don't need the defense to rain *$)# on them to be highly motivated to do better.

I agree.  They need to stay together.  Funny how winning solves a lot of the issues.  If we score on the QB fumbled snap inside the 5 then this is prob a non discussion.  Its a combo of poor play calling and RB looks lost and not confident. 

I am so sick of hiking the ball with 1 second left.  The offense moves better in the two minute O.  Cant the coaches dumb it down and play a little faster?  It doesn't help giving the D Line 35 seconds of rest every play.

I think Chryst will start.  Shaw is too conservative to play Costello.  When Hogan played as a freshman, he was a redshirt freshman.  If Luck did not play as a true freshman Costello won't.

After multiple interceptions, it seem imminently fair to give Chryst a chance, and he has gotten into quite a few games so he is not green.  I think it is time to see what he can do with a full week of practice with the first team.  Nor do I think even the strongest Burns fans would think it unfair to give him a shot under the circumstances.

The Burns fumble on the snap, by the way, used to be a common occurrence for Burns.  He never took snaps under center in high school, and his inability to learn how to do it was one thing that kept him from being Hogan's backup last year.  He had seemed to conquer that problem, but it came back at the worst possible time, and was surly one major factor contributing to the lost game.

All that said, I confess that I do not expect our offense to do significantly better because of a quarterback switch.  I still think that the major problem is with the O-line.  This feels a lot like 2014 only worse.  In 2014 we had to replace some starters and the line did not come together quickly, but this year we have had injuries discombobulating the line to go with the loss of three starters.

IMO,
Costello plays (short of both Burns and Chryst getting hurt) Slim to none.
Lloyd goes back to QB: Slim to none with Slim just having left the room.
