Wasn't it also really cold that day? And Santa Clara isn't exactly a novel vacation destination for Stanford alumni...

Is the supposition that sure Stanford fans will go to the big bowl games, but not to the ones nobody cares about? I honestly don't know why anyone would go to the other bowl games unless your team hasn't been to one in a long time, and you're feeling good about the season and the future.

Of course we start with the supposition that Stanford wins out. Then UW has to make the playoff semifinals. That moves everybody up one slot in the bowl order. The loser of the Pac 12 championship game from the South goes to the Rose Bowl.ÂI agree with Spiny_Norman that the Alamo Bowl is possible but not likely -- so I'm sayin' there's a chance. Heck, a couple pages ago I even listed a theoretical scenario where Stanford could go to the Rose Bowl.
If WSU is 8-1 in conference and no one else is better than 6-3, WSU gets the Alamo Bowl slot automatically. So we further have to assume that WSU loses another game in addition to the Apple Cup. So the contenders for the Alamo Bowl are Stanford (6-3), WSU (7-2 or 6-3), and possibly two among Colorado, Utah or Under Stanford Control (again) (all of whom could be 7-2 or 6-3) from the South. The third would be the Rose Bowl rep.
For Stanford to play in San Antonio, the Alamo Bowl would have to choose Stanford over the other likely contenders (three among WSU, Colorado, Utah, Under Stanford Control (again)).
Not likely but not impossible.
