Stanford Rice game to be played in Australia
It's part of the Pac12 wanting to extend their marketing reach into the Asia-Pacific rim. As I posted in a related thread, and totally selfishly for my own personal situation, if the Band is going, it's a good thing. But at the moment, that's HUUUGE "IF"

As long as you have a bye the following week, it is no big deal from a football point of view. From a cultural perspective, it is a great idea. Also, since another P12 team recently made the trip, the Cardinal can contact them and utilize the knowledge gathered by that school.Â

Considering the alternative is a trip to Houston to play Rice, I like the switch-up. I'd prefer to play someone else at home but that's not on the table.

Seems like a great trip for the players. And we don't have to give up a home game, which is good.

And of course school wont have started, so the extra travel/recovery time wont cause any loss of class time.

You start the season a week earlier which means an extra week of practice. That is good.

The only benefit I see is the extra week of practice. I don't like that Stanford doesn't get additional recruiting exposure in Houston, a hotbed of Texas talent. I also don't like that BigEasyCard and I won't be able to roadtrip to Houston to see a Stanford game in our backyard.
Did anyone consult any hypothetical big money donors in Houston whether it'd be okay to yank a backyard Stanford game away from them? Sigh.

Instead we get national exposure. We should be the only college football game that week, so we will have a monopoly on coverage.
