If you read the thread on NDNation, there's a reference to a Kimi.  She is apparently a young girl who has been battling cancer (sounds like thyroid cancer from other threads), who Konrad befriended.  They became close enough over the years that she considers him a big brother.

It says a lot about Konrad as a person.
