Stanford plays its next 4 games at home vs. U.SC (Friday), UCLA (next Monday instead of usual Sunday slot which would be opposite Super Bowl), Colorado and Utah.  Then home and home vs. c.al before final regular season weekend at the Oregons. The Pac 12 regular season championship and top seed in the conference tournament are within reach with a little luck and a lot of focus.  But Stanford still likely to match up vs. Plum and UW one more time in the conference tournament.

In the meantime, the team has a tall order vs. the LA schools. U.SC is dangerous, having knocked off ASU last weekend. And UCLA is only one game back of Stanford and OSU in the standings.

After a 0-2 loss to sub-.500 WCC opponents to start conference play, Gonzaga has won 8 straight and are currently leading the conference at 17-4 (8-2), so our loss to them isn't as terrible as it looked a month ago, though we are by far and away, their best win, considering it was on our home court.

Many years ago, there was a ref who worked a UW-WSU game in Pullman by herself after the rest of the crew got stuck in bad weather. I wish I could remember her name because she was actually good and had a reputation for calling a fair game.  I got to talk to her a few weeks after the game and she said that she got both teams together and told them that they had to police themselves on certain kinds of calls, and that she was going to have to trust everyone. She then said that if she caught anyone cheating, she'd throw them right out.  I heard that the kids took this all to heart and that the game proceeded without a hitch - I was listening to the game on the radio and the announcers said great stuff about how that game got called.  But that was before Barlow, Palmer, etc...a different era.

I do remember that she quit as a referee not many years after, largely (as she told me) because she felt that politics was determining assignments instead of high profile games going to the 'good' officials.
