I was lucky enough on my flight up to San Jose, to meet one of the players  parents who gave me the same ideas. Since i will be staying after the game, no rush to get back, I will try the underground lot first.
Will most likely  be sitting in the parents section. Will have my Stanford  cap on and a black Stanford  golf shirt on given to me by former OL player Kyle Murphy, (actually Kyles mom gave it me on loan) ;)

One of the stories mentioned Nneka's 42 point game in beating Tennessee as a Tara career highlight. I remembered that I caught a victory ball after that game, and found I still have it. I pumped it up (yes, it's inflatable!) and have brought it along to tonight's game. I am pumped up too!

Do you think if Tara can put together a NCAA championship run within the next few years, she will decide to retire on top, a la John Dunning?

If you look at the numbers, she could possibly get 1098 by the end of the 2019-2020 (in 3 seasons).  Average 29 wins each of the next 3 years, plus another 11 wins this year (we still have 7 regular season games with up to 3 in PAC-12 and up to 6 in NCAA.  Woofing gods, note that I'm not saying we'll win that many, I'm just saying that's one way to solve the equation of getting 1098 by the end of 2020.)

I don't see her leaving this year (unless she has the same opportunity as John Dunning :-).  I guess she could leave at the end of next year.  I'd be surprised, and admittedly disappointed, if she left at the end of 2018 with Summit's record within the next year.  I could see her leaving at the end of 2019 whether she had the record or not.  As Mike Montgomery said in the tributes, he can see her going for 1500 wins.

I don't know her personally, but from all I see, she'll do what she wants to do, whether that surprises us or disappoints us.


To me, the team across the bay is a threat to us.  Rivalry games can be unpredictable, and I think their team has under-performed and will have something to prove.

Coach K is 69 and says he has no intention of retiring any time soon, and I don't expect him to. I wouldn't expect Tara to retire for at least another 7 years. I don't think winning a natty would have any influence at all for her until she is about to retire anyway.

I hope she stays as the women's bball coach for many more years, but as a Stanford alum, I am naturally curious and because it's been so long since we last won the national title (25 years and counting) and given the challenging landscape (not just UConn, but N.D., Baylor, etc.), I was just wondering if indeed, we were able to reach the pinnacle of the sport again after coming close within the last few years, whether it would be in Tara's consideration, to see her journey come full circle and retire.

Who would have guessed Dunning would have walked away after this year with so many promising underclassmen, either?

Well, it has been used against her in recruiting.  Didn't one recruit we lost out cite the possibility that Tara wasn't going to be around all four years as a reason she went somewhere else.

By the way, after she catches Pat Summit, she can go for 1000 wins at Stanford.  I believe she's at 877.
