I just had a chance to watch the game. Congratulations, French Rage! Regardless of what happens subsequently, you will always be able to say that you are a Jeopardy champion.Â
A few questions about your game play.
Did you have a particular strategy for timing of the signaling device? Were you keying off of Trebek's voice? Others have told me that you cannot look for the lights on the side of the board to go off. If you wait to see the lights before signalling, you are too slow. Whatever you did worked really well. You consistently beat your opponents to buzz in first.
Did you study wagering strategies before going on the show?
Did you have a strategy for playing the board? Did you want to hunt for the Daily Doubles or just let them come in the flow of the game?

- It's hard to say what my timing was. I didn't wait for the lights since that would be too late. I guess it went for his voice, maybe right as he was finishing the last word, since the half second of reflex would then time it right. But it's hard to say for sure, a lot of it is just instinct and having the right instinct that day.
- No particular wagering strategy.
- I think I identified which categories were my best and jumped between them. I wasn't DD hunting, but I figured going through in order on stuff I felt I knew wouldn't help me but might help my competitors, so I figured moving around a little would help. Though some of the time I was probably just picking at random because of the time pressure.

In other words, "How do I win on Jeopardy when my number gets called???" (and Spiny, I'm glad you asked because I want to be ready for it. With my luck, I'd wind up going against you...)

One of my high school quiz bowl teammates would answer in the form of question during competitions. We broke him of this habit, and then when he auditioned for the Jeopardy High School edition he couldn't answer in the form of question. He blamed us. He wasn't that knowledgeable anyways. Only the 2nd best member of the team. ::)

Quiz bowl was the jam back in high school. All this Jeopardy talk has inspired me to start the tryout process...I just wish I had a fraction of the knowledge I used to have back in high school.
