SI on the future of football TV deals

I will say this right now. If sports becomes a vessel to enrich the likes of Amazon, and I can only watch games buy buying from Amazon, I will stop watching them. Why on Earth wouldn't the conferences just sell their own rights? Hell, look at freaking LaVar Ball. Say what you want about him but he's smart enough to realize he should be owning the rights of his brand, and not simply being paid to endorse someone else's. Why do these sports leagues think they need distribution partners? They simply do not.

I'm not sure about anything as it relates to the distribution of college football programming, but I will note that among the top 100 television programs of 2016, only two were college football games.

I'd like to see the Pac 12 offer a streaming subscription and then also allow others (e.g., Amazon) to also carry. Not sure is possible . . . I suspect a lot of scenario modeling and tough negotiations ahead as the landscape evolves.Â
