Ravens sign Griff Whalen

It's interesting to hear an NFL fan regard Griff's WR skills as providing depth. I could consider him depth behind second-stringers but probably not depth behind starters...unless you have an all-world talent like Luck zipping the ball to him where only he can catch it. Good things...these are good things.
I'm surprised that Devin Hester was a disastrous signing for the Ravens though I admit I did not read a single bit about the Ravens' returner situation. Whalen's got hands, and that's 100% of what you need at returner--don't turn the ball over.
Finally, I wonder if Jim Harbaugh nudged his brother John, head coach of the Ravens, about Griff. Or maybe John took a look at Griff and asked Jim for an evaluation.Â

Isn't this the season when NFL teams load up on players with very low chance of actually making the team? It's a long way to making opening day roster.
But a slim chance is better than none.

Whether he makes the opening day roster or not, I'm still amazed that Whalen has been in the league for six years.

Agreed. I enjoy watching and rooting for him. Hopefully he finds a role.
