Some, sure. But as with any criminal activity or off-field concern, the degree to which a team is willing to put up with it depends entirely on two factors: (1) the team's belief in how much the player can contribute; and (2) the seriousness of the crime in question. There are lots of players with DUIs playing in the league, so it's obviously not disqualifying. In my view, Parry not being on a 53-man roster depends entirely on teams thinking he's just not very good, or thinking that he lacks ideal size for the position (which they can't coach) and has gotten as far as he has because of good technique and effort, suggesting that he probably can't improve much more.Â
Of course, it's not just Parry. The last few seasons, very few Colts final cut-downs are claimed on waivers or signed by other teams (if they're vested veterans). A pretty good sign that the rest of the league doesn't think much of the talent on your roster. (This year, the Browns claimed OT Zach Banner out of SC, a 4th round pick this year, but there are few examples like that.) I'm thrilled Grigson is gone, and I hope Colts fans give Ballard a couple of years of roster building before they start to lose patience.Â
I suppose we'll see how it all works out with Parry. I'm pretty sure this is Parry's last year where he'd be eligible for a practice squad, so next year, it's 53-man roster or nothing.
