Whatever you believe about the NFL protests, I really appreciated David Shaw's message.

“I think opinions are valid. For some reason nowadays we just want to yell to each other as opposed to saying, ‘Here’s what I believe, you believe in something different, let’s find our commonalities and our differences and respect each other.’

When talking about what Shaw would do if he leaves Stanford, the conversation is always about the NFL. Maybe people should ask him about politics/government. Sen. Booker has blazed the trail for him.

Trivia....Dorian Maddox was quoted as saying the only person he knew from Stanford when he decided to accept was Booker, who was a family friend.

On a non-political use of the word "conservative" in Tom FitzGerald's article ... it's amusing to me that a guy who suddenly decided to start a true freshman at left tackle in game 3, on the road, is considered someone who's overwhelmingly conservative. But that's all!

Shaw has grown & evolved as a playcaller and head coach in his 6 years.  He no longer pounds it up the middle all day like in the Michigan State Rose Bowl game, and he no longer punts from inside the 30, but that doesn't stop me from expecting it.

I was pleasantly surprised twice in the UCLA game: when we went for it on 4th and 6 after the field goal delay of game, and the goal line play where everyone expected Cameron Scarlett to punch it in but turned out to be Costello running around the right end for a TD.
