That's always lame, but hopefully USC being the second game rather than the third will mean something of a crowd against Davis. I think in terms of team success starting with a nice homestand is a good thing, and we only ever have two away games in a row, and the one to end the season isn't all that scary. The breaks are definitely nice too.

In hindsight there's always something you'd rather change about the schedule, but ahead of time this looks pretty good.

Also: every home game is a Saturday! Only one weekday game and it's the pseudo-bye Thursday game, and it's against a weaker team! Pretty good.

Yes, this is a fair and reasonable schedule.  The biggest thing I did NOT want to see was a Friday night road game, especially not against UW.  All three Pac-12 favorites took massive CFP blows as favorites in Friday night road games this year - U$C @ Wazzu, Wazzu @ ןɐɔ, and UW @ STAN.  (On the flip side, it might have been nice to get Wazzu in our house on a Friday night!) 

I also like that we'll need to be battle-tested by SDSU before the U$C game.  This year's opener vs. Rice obviously didn't help sharpen us.

Today in our opponents' scheduling, note the following:

Right, but I think it'll be better than if it were SDSU, Davis, USC. IIRC Stanford has tried various things (with some success) to bring students back a bit early for USC, and if they're already back with nothing really to do when Davis is in town, why not show up?

But the students section, even at its biggest, is only like 10% of the stadium, so Davis will certainly have bad attendance, especially if it's in the afternoon on a hot day.

I like it about as much as I can like an even year schedule. Having home games without students sucks, but I’d rather we work out the kinks from a new team at home instead of on the road. There are nice breathers in terms of having Davis before Oregon and ND and a bye and then half bye before the Washington schools. It’s still a tough schedule with games at ND and at UW, but at least playing at Autzen isn’t as rough as it used to be.

Homecoming will have to be the WSU game on October 27, correct?  Next year is a reunion year for me.

What an awful schedule. For many of us that didn't play, a big part of our love for Stanford football was sitting on the sunny side enjoying the environment and the football. The annual trek to So Cal was always a great event as well. Next year, three games before the kids are on campus and the LA trip two days after Thanksgiving. Kinda kills the road trip, doesn't it?

Maybe I'm off, but I wonder is the students will have the same kind of love for Stanford football that we all came away with, if the don't have the opportunity to have similar experiences. May slowly kill enthusiasm over time. . . .

given they made the call on when reunion was this year shortly after the schedule was announced (which was I think in Feb) they should be able to select the date pretty quickly.

If we dropped the series with ND we'd have a lot more flexibility, including having all 3 OOC games early and not having to either play UCLA away or have a bye with the last week of the season. I've consistently thought the yearly ND game isn't worth the scheduling headaches, but the AD disagrees (and I'd guess a lot of the fanbase does too).

how times have changed, I worked at my  undergrad summer jobs pretty much as soon as I could get there after spring finals until I had to drive back for registration in the fall, unfortunately those jobs were all in the midwest.......of course that was back when we used stone knives for cutting and quills for writing......
