The Colts traded their third overall pick to the Jets for a bounty of draft picks:
#6 overall pick, #37 and 49 overall picks (both in the 2nd round) plus the Jets' second round pick in 2019.

Seems like a good set of picks for giving up three spots in the draft.  It also suggests that the Colts are confident Andrew will return, because they could have drafted a franchise QB with the third overall pick, given the plethora of QB's coming out this draft.

A terrific haul for Ballard. Not only could you still get Bradley Chubb at 6, but if you don't, you'd be in a position to draft either Saquon Barkley or Quenton Nelson and get yourself a difference maker at a real position of need, given the likelihood that the other teams above the Colts will be in the market for QBs.  And to get the 5th pick in the 2nd round and another top 50 pick and the Jets' 2nd rounder next year (which figures to be near the top of the round because they'll still be kinda bad)?  My goodness.

The Colts could be in a position to get 4 starters out of the first two rounds. And they might not be done yet--the Bills are definitely in the market for a QB, and with #12 and #22 in the first round, they have the ammo to move up. According to the trade value chart, the Bills giving up 12 and 22 in exchange for 6 would be a high price to pay, but the QB tax is real, folks. If you're desperate to move up and get your guy, you will have to overpay.

As it is, Ballard has moved down three spots in the first round and picked up three second round picks in exchange. That's already an incredible deal. But if Buffalo feels compelled to move up and throws in 22 to make it work, Ballard will have turned #3 into:

And the Jets' second-rounder in 2019. Not to mention #36, which the Colts already have. It would be painful to give up the chance to draft Chubb or Nelson, one of whom figures to be there at 6 with the number of QBs that will go (plus Barkley), but #12 and #22 would soothe that burn. (That said, I really like the Colts' current position--still with a chance to get a game-changing prospect at #6, and two extra 2018 second rounders to add impact starters.)

Cleveland, the Giants, Jets and Broncos could all end up selecting quarterbacks, which likely would mean the Colts remain at No. 6. Colts GM Chris Ballard told Colts.com they are “open to move down” again in the draft if they receive a "pretty attractive" offer from a team. The odds of that happening will increase depending on how many of the projected top-10 quarterbacks are still on the board when the Colts pick. A team such as Buffalo, which is still seeking long-term stability at quarterback, might be willing to make a trade with Indianapolis. The Colts are in the position to move back again because they don't have their eyes on one particular player in the draft. They have so many holes -- offensive line, defensive line, cornerback, linebacker and receiver -- that there's a good chance they'll still be able to find a player at one of those positions wherever they end up picking. -- Mike Wells
