We've been using an Aeropress for probably six years now. Gave away our coffee maker. It is a bit time consuming because you have to make one cup at a time, but it is amazingly smooth. Just a great cup of coffee. We even re-use the filters; we still have a stack of the originals and will never run out. HOWEVER, we've had to replace the plunger every couple of years because the rubber fitting gets worn out.

Having said that, some mornings I've wished to be able to just push a button and not go through the process of making a cup. First world problem.

On the problem of the rubber seal on the Aeropress plunger, I think I have a solution.  I make a modified "bulletproof" coffee using coconut oil.  After adding a spoonful to my drip cup, I rub a little around the rubber rim of the plunger.  I think this will keep the plunger conditioned and allow it to last longer.  We'll see in time.

I also appreciate the "bulletproof" idea of using coconut oil (I don't really want to buy the "brain octane oil"). Have you tried mixing in the unsalted butter? I have not.

I recommend separating your frother, grinder & coffee maker. Those combo units do not work as well as advertised, and it will cut your costs substantially. I got my Cuisinart burr grinder at Costco for about $30. Nespresso frothers rock for making lattes, and most coffee makers that take paper filters also have a gold filter available either from the manufacturer or on Amazon.
