There is an interesting article on SFGate about Peter Coutts who once owned 1600 acres of Leland Stanford's more than 8,000 acre ranch.  I assume that Peter Coutts Road and Peter Coutts Circle in the faculty ghetto are named after him.  Peter Coutts was not his real name and The Frenchman's Tower on Old Page Mill near 280 is a remnant of his estate.   He and his family disappeared one day without a trace.  The full story is here:  https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/p...o-15492572.
