For others who are similarly confused, you have to set your flair in CFB to Stanford, and then it will give you the option to switch from the green-wand-shaped-thingy team to the Stanford team. After switching to the Stanford team, I got different buttons, so I chose to simply defend Stanford. Right. Sorry, I forgot that team membership is indeed based on r/cfb flair. So if you aren't already on r/cfb you'll have to choose flair first. And don't forget to PM u/bubthefish to join the discord to discuss strategy. Though my own strategy has simply been to attack the weenies.

Stanford is by far the smallest team (<100 users, whereas most remaining teams have 1,000+)--and yet--we're ranked 5th overall! We've established dominion over California and Northern Nevada, and have recently expanded East to the Great Lakes region where we're planning to fight Michigan! (We let you have Harbaugh, but we won't let you have CFB Risk!)
