My wife was properly complaining that our Comcast bill goes up pretty much every month. I looked at the May bill compared to April and found that "Broadcast TV Fee" had gone from $7 to $8 and "Regional Sports Fees" had gone from $5 to $6.50 (up 30%).
It appears that these are Comcast-originated fees (not taxes or FCC-mandated fees) that are added on top of the "Regular Monthly Charges". For instance, see this article at the Consumerist.
Am I (and each of the other Comcast subscribers in my "region") paying $78/yr Regional Sports Fees (while I live near Stanford, Comcast doesn't clarify that "regional" means sports originating in my geographic region) to watch the SEC HD channel (which I get) or the PAC-12 SD channel (no HD on what I get)? That's on top of the "regular monthly charges" + $92/yr for "Broadcast TV Fee". I wonder how much the PAC-12 is charging per subscriber?
My wife is ready to cut the cord but threw it up to me to make the decision.
I saw ads for YouTube's new TV service for $40/month, so I went to check it out. Yep, there's the SEC and the BigTen, a bunch of soccer clubs, and other channels I wouldn't watch. And, yep, you guessed it, no PAC-12 TV network.
I may just have to tell Comcast, Larry Scott, and the PAC-12 Network that I'm mad as hell and not going to take this any more. I wish there were a way to keep watching the PAC-12, but I just may have to give it up (It is mostly old reruns that I don't care about. Too many events are not covered on the SD PAC-12 channel that Comcast carries as part of most packages.)
