Trust me on this one. 1989 to 1993 gives you four academic years. With the 1989 earthquake & 1993 graduation that definitely was a memorable 4 year academic span for me. ;)
However, I believe that Whitfield left for the NFL after the 1991 football season (only 2.5 academic years). While at Stanford he was definitely round 1 NFL OL material, so there would have been little doubt he was going to get drafted. Also, if I recall correctly, he had children even then, so multitasking the NFL, children, and Stanford on the side might not have happened.
