I'll say this: I'm impressed with Swann's thoughtful, measured, and yet blunt letter. He takes partial responsibility for the season, and doesn't make excuses, but also pushes back against the mob mentality of the peanut gallery. His letter also gives clear reasons for the decision, metrics for success, and areas to focus on, so there's something to measure against next season. That was what always bothered me with, for example, our over-long retention of Johnny Dawkins in MBB. Muir never really gave explicit reasons for doing so, so season after season would end in what I think everyone (including Muir) agreed was disappointment, but with no clear plan going forward, and no sense of what Dawkins needed to accomplish in order to remain. Assistant coaches remained, general tactics and strategies didn't develop, recruiting got no better, and there was no sense that anyone had a new plan going forward.
