One random thought,  Marecic,  who put in the work to qualify for med school and claims he still would like a career as a doctor,  has made his mark as a guy unsparingly hitting and taking hits as a designated battering ram.  There's a growing body of evidence that the repeated violent impacts of football might lead to brain damage and even severe problems in the out years.
You kind of hate to see a great guy like Marecic continuing to take those risks in the much more violent NFL.  And, yes, I did think it was great while Marecic was taking those risks for us..  Marecic making a name for himself in college AND the pros seems to be his dream.  I could settle for Marecic accomplishing what he has and now making a name for himself as a great doctor.  But that's just me and if by some chance I end up watching the Browns play,  of course I'll be watching and cheering for Owen.

Malcolm Snider, class of 1969, played on the offensive line for the Falcons and the Packers. Started going to UWisc med school during the off-season, then apparently concluded it would take forever on a part-time basis and retired in order to complete his medical education. Last I heard was practicing in Oregon, where he grew up. From what I've heard, offensive linemen are the most likely to suffer from the brain-scrambling effects of pro football, so here's at least one counter-example.

Of course, as Garvin delights in pointing out, 1969 was a l-o-o-n-g time ago (MUCH longer than, say, 1975...), and I know players were much smaller then, especially on the line. And Malcolm's career was relatively short -- four or five years, I think. So the counter-example may not be entirely comparable.

Glad things worked out for him.  Great college career,  proved he could make it in the NFL.  And now has a career,--although, come to think about it,  he might be close to a well-deserved retirement.  Marecic is a player & a half, too.  So if he leaves the half in the NFL and escapes with the rest of himself,  he might have the best of both worlds.
