We heard most of this last year when it looked like Commissioner Scott might just really take over the entire western U.S. Then, poof! The main problem driving these rumors now is people are discovering that they sold the livestock and most of the entire farm to Univ. of Texas as far as revenue splits and TV rights go. The other thing that never really got resolved was Texas A&M's flirtation with the SEC. Apparently the interest was mutual and much stronger on the A&M side than people saw at the time.  Texas A&M would fit well in the SEC and it would fit the not-so-secret SEC world-domination scenario. Trouble is, they need another team which means more than stealing a few ponies off the Big12 ranch. The rumor back then was to get Oklahoma and A&M. If A&M could go to the SEC and still retain a season game against Texas, this could be BIG.

How long until we have just one big conference? It kind of reminds me of an obscure line from a terribly obscure movie that I'm embarrassed to be referencing: "Now all restaurants are Taco Bell."

Hey Lurck, I saw Dr. Horrible for the first time tonight. Not bad, if only because of its unconventional ending.

Nathan Fillion knocking it outta the park goes without saying. But who knew Firefly's Captain Mal could carry off a caddish singing superhero, The Hammer Is My.. whoopsie, better not go there in a family friendly forum.
Slow breaths, visualizing calm deep blue waters, deep Blue waters, feeling better now, sorry, still finding balance, nearly there, oh-kay, I'm good.
So, yes, I kinda liked it too, and thanks for weighing in.

I actually met Felicia Day at an autograph session about seven months ago before I'd dipped my toe into anything Dr. H or Guild related. I was there to get stuff autographed for a friend, in fact, and I was quite charmed by Ms. Day (as a violinist myself as well). Anyway, I watched the DVD with some friends and was suitably impressed (Neil Patrick Harris can sing?). I'm not generally a brobdingnagian Whedon fan either, and I confess that part of it is reflexive reaction to the lemming-like opinions my friends have against anything in the Whedon-verse (the guy surely is not Midas).
And as to the original topic, I wonder how quickly the SEC would move to accept OU and A&M, should they defect from the Big 12...

Very impressive credentials FM, color me one seriously jealous Guildy. Coincidentally RR lives not that far a holler from FD's family home in Huntsville Alabama, so I'm sensing collective Geek vulnerability hereabouts on the internet.
Did your group play the DVD's "Commentary" companion musical numbers? Clue for next time, if ever: Helps bunches to have a printout of lyrics in hand [<- late add, intending here to suggest Commentary printouts] for proper appreciation of overlapping voices, like at the opera. The DrH Commentaries are also available on YT.
With Whedon presently directing the ultimate big budget action flick, Avengers, there are quite a few deep pocket money guys genuflecting nightly to the gods that Midas-like returns do accrue.. or even just break even. Truthfully I'd guess dialog is JW's special talent, not so much credibility for car chases or whatever stunt work Avengers indulges.

Ah no, we didn't hit the commentary, but I'll be sure to learn the songs before long. JW's dialogue is too witty for realism, imho--funny, but it takes me out of the story's context sometimes. For example, Serenity had the River Tam fight scene near the end where this 90-lb waif of a girl destroys a small battalion of Reavers...physically not so possible! But emotionally satisfying of course--the good girl wins.
I think technology and CGI is making it such that anyone can add in some decent action sequences to a film. With the exception of Michael "Hyperkinetic" Bay's work, I feel like most action scenes from film to film generally feel the same. JW's Avengers hopefully doesn't lose me with saccharine-sweet geek references (character depth please!) despite the fact that I will probably enjoy them anyway. I predict success for Avengers.
Now, Green Lantern and Captain America have been red-flagged by my friends as do-not-see movies...I've held off on those, and yet they've done respectably at the box office iirc.
