With the recent performance trends of football and men's basketball:

The Pac-12 is historically mediocre in both of those sports right now.  No real CFP contender in the last couple of years, no real shot at any men's basketball team making a deep run in the tournament in the last couple of years.  I can't think of an era in the past 30 or 40 years where both of those statements were as true at the same time as they are now.

That's the context of the performance.  Yes, the football team caught a bad synergy of OOC opponents this year.  But a downward trend in football results, and sustained meh results in men's basketball, against a conference that is sucking wind is not a good thing.

Yep, the volatility of men's bb is pretty darned high right now.  And Washington, Arizona, and UCLA could be much improved.

But watching the teams for the last couple of years struggle against a weaker than normal Pac-12, especially in comparison to women's bball continuing success against a historically strong Pac-12, is not encouraging.  Let alone the peripheral issues around the teams - the early departures, the rise in essentially non-competitive games, etc.

You're right, but it's apparent to us MBB season ticket holders members who sit through game after game. For 20 years I have had 4 seats and invited a large rotating set of friends to join my wife and me at games, but this year I dropped down to 2 because the past couple of years hardly anyone wanted to go to a game -- for free! If you're a Stanford fan the product is just not enjoyable to watch.

I gave up my MBB tickets several years ago in the middle of Dawkins' mediocrity after having them for more than a decade. The last three seasons I've bought a six-pack of tickets for me and my wife. This year I'm not spending a dime on MBB - not sure I'd even take free tickets.
