That doesn\'t begin to capture the wretchedness of the bullpen\'s outing.
Pries had given up 3 runs in the first 6 innings and led 4-3 going into the top of the seventh. Â New Mexico got the leadoff man aboard with a HBP, then moved him to second on a sac bunt. Â Pries then gave up an infield single to make it first and third with 1 out. Â The call to the pen for Danny Sandbrink.
Long sac fly to tie the game.
5 pitch walk.
Four pitch walk to load the bases.
They brought in Snodgress.
Four pitch walk to give up the lead.
They brought in Busick.
Single to center, and New Mexico leads 7-4.
They did all right in the eighth, but in the ninth, with Stanford trailing 7-5:
5 pitch walk. Â 4 pitch walk including a passed ball to send the man to second. Â Sac bunt, 2nd and 3rd. Â Intentional walk. Â Suicide squeeze bunt single to third. Â Strikeout, then HBP to drive in another run.
Ugh.
Of course, the offense had its share of woes. Â 14 hits only scored 5 runs. Â A lot of strikeouts with men in scoring position and less than 2 outs.
But giving the Lobos 10 free baserunners (7 walks, three HBP) was too much to overcome.
Hopefully they can win at least a couple, but it will be tough; Minnesota\'s getting a great pitching performance and beating host Fullerton State 3-0 in the 5th. Â Would hate to face the Titans in the loser\'s bracket first game.
