Heard on the radio that the #1 or #2 defense has met the #1 or #2 offense in the Super Bowl nine times, and that the team with the higher rated defense won seven of them. 

In the regular season, Niners were #4 on offense (381.1 ypg) and Chiefs were #6 on offense (379.2 ypg).  On defense, KC was #17 (349.6) and SF was #2 (281.8 ypg)

Key stat to me is that KC was #26 on run defense and SF was #2 on rushing offense (144.1 ypg).

I was at Stanford during some of the 49ers glory years, but the Chiefs have some kind of special fan base that comes out in 10 degree weather to support a team that loses playoff games in the weirdest and most cruel ways. Time for them to get their reward.

I guess because men seem to want them to do so and there is money in such performances.   It was all pretty dumb, but I was pretty impressed with the ... conditioning.

Shanahan struck me as not quite ready for prime time compared to Reid.  I thought the call on Kittle was marginal compared to what WASN'T being called during the game.  KC's receivers were MUCH faster than our DBs.  Our DBs were marginal, IMHO.  KC was ready for our run offense.  BOth our offense and defense got tired in the fourth quarter.  I think Garoppolo will be a smarter, savvier quarterback because of this.  At then end of the day, a 4-12 team last year finished 2nd in the NFL.  I'll take that any day.  I'm satisfied.

Agree 100 percent.  I thought the 49ers had a better team overall coming in but that KC had a big edge at QB. 4 key plays. 1- 3d and 5 up 10. Right after INT.   He doesn’t see a wide open Kittle. Incompletion. 2- 3d and 15. Mahomes finds Hill deep as he’s getting hit.   Friend of mine told me he heard the radio people say it was a blown coverage. 3. Up 3. Third and 5 again. He again doesn’t see Kittle. Throws to the wrong guy. What I really don’t understand is why he’s not looking for Kittle in those situations in the first place. He’s by far their best receiver. 4.  3d and 10. 1:30 left. Sanders has a TD if he makes that throw.

I have no real criticism of Shanahan, thought he called a great game. (I thought he might draw on 2nd and 10 last drive. But that’s a nit). If they make the plays they’re supposed to they win. It’s a simple as that.  He put them in a position to win the football game. They didn’t make the plays.
