I agree as a general matter that you can't really judge a coach based on one season.  However, if we end up winning a National Championship this year [or maybe even "just" the Rose Bowl], I'm pretty sure, in the years to come, I'll remember Shaw more fondly than Rod Dowhower ...

In a super bowl, I remember watching with a good friend when Montana threw an interception and my friend was beside himself.  When the camera flashed on Joe laughing with teammates on the sidelines after that pick, my friend was furious.  I thought that Joe had it just right.  Not just to say loose but to be sure that failures of the past do not bleed into failures of the future.
