That's logical.
Very few of the March SAT centers were open as COVID closures were spreading throughout CA, NY and MA. None for May or June sessions were held anywhere in the USA. There is now a special session for August and then the normal September and October dates.
However, the August selection process was a free for all. Everyone that applied for March, April & May tests were trying to snag a coveted spot. The registration site literally crashed on the night registration opened. A few days later those signing up for a site might need to drive an hour or more away from home. I would only guess in other places the travel could be greater or that sites were full.
The September sites had a similar issue.
Many of these recruits don't have any scores at this stage so it is really hard to know if you are close or not.
The test score uncertainty was just another snag related to COVID that probably was going to negatively impact Stanford recruiting, so I am glad to see this update if if is true.
These students have so many worries right now. Their HS summer football camps might not be open. They may or may not have a HS football season. School districts don't know if they will have online, hybrid on in person formats. Everyone understands schools may close in November or December.
Add in D1 level recruiting challenges also with a heap of COVID issues and the whole thing had to be overwhelming. Not just overwhelming because applying to college is a hard, but overwhelming because there continues to be a lot of uncertainty in a rapid evolving situation.
